Ordering bedding for a care home or supported housing setting and finding out after delivery it's only certified to a lower classification than the fire risk assessment actually requires — that's a compliance failure, not just a wrong order.
This fabric is inherently flame retardant — the fire resistance is built into the polyester fibre itself, not a coating that washes out over time or repeated commercial laundering. It's independently tested and certified to British Standard 7175, Crib 7, which is the higher of the two BS7175 classifications used in bedding.
100% polyester, inherently flame retardant, 135 GSM
BS 7175 Crib 7 certified, tested by an independent test house
Available as duvet cover, fitted sheet, flat sheet, or pillowcase pair
Single and Double sizes only
Multiple colours available
Built specifically for care homes, hospitals, supported housing, prisons and other settings where a fire risk assessment requires a specific BS7175 classification — not intended as general home bedding, since the fire-retardant fibre trades some softness for that certification. See the full FR and waterproof bedding hub for protectors and blankets to the same standard.
Machine washable — this is a key requirement for institutional laundering, and the flame-retardant property is inherent to the fibre, not a coating that degrades with washing
Tumble dry
Do not treat with fabric softener, which can affect FR fibre performance over time
Is BS7175 Crib 7 the same as Crib 5?
No. Source/Crib 5 covers general contract use; Crib 7 is the higher classification, typically required for care homes, hospitals and custodial settings where fire risk is greater. Check your fire risk assessment for which one your setting actually requires before ordering.
Why is this only available in Single and Double?
The current range is built around the sizes most commonly specified for institutional single-occupancy rooms. For King or Super King in flame retardant bedding, call to check current options.
Does the fire-retardant property wash out over time?
No — the fibre itself is inherently flame retardant rather than surface-treated, so normal laundering doesn't reduce the certification, provided fabric softener is avoided.
Can I get a certificate for our fire risk assessment file?
Yes, certification documentation is available on request — contact 01204 455755.
Is this suitable for domestic use, not just institutional?
It can be used at home, though the fabric is built primarily for the certification and commercial laundering cycle rather than softness — most domestic buyers choose our cotton or polycotton ranges instead unless FR certification is specifically needed.
