Most towels marketed as heavyweight don't actually weigh much more than a standard bath towel — the GSM number goes up on the label, the feel in your hand barely changes. Ours does, because 700 GSM Royal Egyptian towels are woven from double yarn: two threads twisted together before weaving, not just a denser single thread. That's the difference between a towel that feels heavier on a shop shelf and one that actually holds more cotton per square metre.
At 70 x 130cm, it's the same footprint as our 500 and 600 GSM bath towels, so the extra weight is entirely in the density of the weave, not the size of the towel.
Double yarn construction means more cotton fibre packed into the same weave, which is what gives a 700 GSM towel its pile and its drying power. It also means the towel holds that density through more wash cycles before thinning — a single-yarn towel loses loft faster because there's simply less fibre there to lose.

At home, it's the towel for a main bathroom or en-suite where you want the heaviest option we make. Spas and boutique hotels buy the same 700 GSM double yarn range because guests notice the difference in weight the moment they pick one up — browse our600 GSM range if you want a lighter option at the same construction quality, or call 01204 455755 for a trade quote.

What does double yarn actually mean?
Two cotton threads twisted together before weaving, rather than one — it's what gives 700 GSM its density, not just a heavier label.
How much heavier does 700 GSM feel compared to 600 GSM?
Noticeably — double yarn construction means more fibre per square metre, not just a higher number on the spec sheet. If you've handled a standard 600 GSM towel, the difference is obvious the moment you pick this one up.
Will it take longer to dry, both on me and on the rail?
Slightly, yes — that's the trade-off with any heavier towel. It dries you in fewer passes because there's more cotton doing the absorbing, but it takes a little longer to dry out fully on the rail afterwards. Most people find that trade worth it for a main bathroom towel used once or twice a day, less so for a hand towel used constantly.
Do spas and hotels buy this range in bulk?
Yes, with no minimum order — call 01204 455755 for a trade quote if you're ordering for multiple rooms.
Is it colourfast?
Yes, though we'd recommend washing separately for the first couple of washes as standard practice.
